Sorption Science Symposium 2021 Takes Materials Science Conference Online for the first time
Sorption scientists from around the world gathered online on 22 & 23 September to share knowledge and reconnect in the first virtual edition of the European Sorption Science Symposium.
With the continued uncertainty of travel due to the effects of the Pandemic, Surface Measurement Systems pushed on with their goal to host a high-level scientific conference for the sorption science community by taking the event online. The European-based Symposium saw a strong showing from across the continent, with attendees joining from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom.
The Symposium delivered a dedicated Sorption Science agenda with 35 speakers exploring new applications, recent research, and case studies across a range of fields and industries. This was reflected in the diverse audience of sorption scientists in attendance, coming from industries as varied as pharmaceuticals, automotive, food, energy, oil & gas, chemicals, and cosmetics, as well as from various international universities, research institutions, and government agencies.
While being a European-based event, like the previous live edition, the 225 attendees joined the symposium from 24 countries around the globe, including from as far afield as China, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, and Korea. The event offered a variety of networking opportunities, such as communal video-chat lounges, attendee chat, and video matchmaking sessions. Special networking sessions were also set up to connect up-and-coming student scientists with potential future employers and research collaborators.
