Materials Characterization using Dynamic Vapor Sorption for Pharmaceutical and Food Applications

The free one day workshop covers in-depth Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) and Inverse Gas Chromatography – Surface Energy Analyzer (iGC-SEA) for pharmaceutical and food applications.

Pharmaceuticals materials, in their many physical forms, offer a wide range of complex behavior, often dependent on their complex crystalline and amorphous morphologies. Surface Measurement Systems instruments have become the industry standard for the characterisation of solid state dosage forms in the pharmaceutical industry.

Key applications:

  • Drying and dehydration
  • Hydrates and morphology
  • Vapor pressure
  • Water sorption isotherms
  • Polymorphism
  • Diffusion and permeability
  • Stability testing
  • Formulation performance

Food and food ingredients are often very hygroscopic materials. The final performance and stability of these materials necessitates careful consideration of moisture uptake in the materials, as well as the associated packaging system. Problems with drying, caking, product stability are common and can often be traced to moisture issues. Water sorption isotherms obtained using our DVS instruments is industry standard way of understanding these challenging problems.

Key applications:

  • Drying and dehydration
  • Powder caking
  • Water sorption isotherms
  • Glass transition temperature
  • Water activity
  • Permeability of packaging
  • Stability testing
  • Formulation performance

Speakers from industry and academia will discuss DVS and iGC-SEA, from theory to common applications and present real case studies. In addition, an instrument demonstration will follow after the presentations.
